With a short creative lead time (Paul Henry was on vacation in two weeks!) and little idea of what his new show would look or feel like beyond the fact that it would be ground breaking and ‘everywhere’, we set about making Paul Henry’s return to breakfast TV the most talked about event in New Zealand.
Our brief was to reach out to TV, online and radio audiences, while building excitement for the return of our cheeky star, and to do it in a way that stood out from all the other news and current affairs campaigns we saw around us. Paul Henry was always the key, so we needed to make sure his irreverent style was front and centre.
On the first day on air our campaigns predictions came true as #paulhenry became the nation’s top trending topic - and the headline on every local news site - as well as attracting twice as many viewers as the morning show it replaced. We knew we’d hit the spot when our own Prime Minister came on the show and asked for “One of those white suits” he’d seen on our promos!
